Do-It-Yourself: Pet Furniture Ideas from IKEA Hackers
While researching for another post, I stumbled on this blog and just had to share it. Talk about some innovative uses of IKEA and other products! There are projects here not only for cats and dogs, but rats, hamsters, ferrets and more.
Established in May 2006, IkeaHackers.net is a blog about modifications on and repurposing of Ikea products. Hacks, as they call it, may be as simple as adding an embellishment, some others may require power tools and lots of ingenuity. Hacks can be broken down by either time to create or difficulty of the projects. The blog has no official connection to Ikea itself, but is a collection of projects done by Ikea fans. In you need help with a project, there is even a Ikea Hackers forum at IKEAfans.
Currently IkeaHackers lists 62 projects categorized under pet furniture. After a quick browse, I think one of my favorites is the Cat Activity/Sleep Center shown on the left, which was made out of a IKEA bookcase and includes beds, toys and scratchers—and happy cats. This is something I might consider making for my kitties this spring.
If you are a do-it-yourselfer, know a do-it-yourselfer, or just like to save a buck on some innovative pet furniture, be sure to visit this blog.
