Happy Tales: Courtney, now Zizka
Our Courtney, a sight-impaired kitty, was adopted yesterday by a wonderful lady, Kelly. Kelly and her husband have a kitty now that has one eye and is also sight-impaired. Kelly drove all the way from Clovis to adopt our sweet, cuddly Courtney. She was purring up a storm in these pictures just before they got on the road for home.
“We’ve re-named little Miss Courtney Jan Zizka (Zizka for short) after the 15th century Bohemian general. Like Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan, General Zizka and his armies were never defeated. He was blinded in battle as a young soldier, and he was known as the Blind Genius by his troops. Gen. Zizka joins Admiral Nelson at our house, and now we have a couple of very distinguished cats.
Zizka is such a precious little doll. She likes to curl up in my arms when I’m on the couch, and she has a delightful little meow and purr. She’s a little skittish when I try to pick her up, but she settles down as soon as she’s in my arms, and so far she’s let me administer her nightly eye drops like a champ. She’s eating her kibble but has yet to try her wet food, and she’s perfect about her littler box.
Admiral Nelson is alarmed, and snorts and growls at the door to the office where Gen. Zizka is living for the time being. Yesterday Admiral Nelson sneaked in as I was doing laundry, and the two briefly met nose-to-nose. Admiral Nelson did a bit of hissing and posturing, but Gen. Zizka just watched her and meowed. She didn’t seem threatened or frightened, so I am hopeful that once the Admiral Nelson’s shock wears off there will be peace. :)”

“Rescue animals aren’t broken, they’ve simply experienced more life than other animals. If they were human we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Don’t pity them. Do something. Help to rescue. Donate. Volunteer. Foster. Adopt. And be proud to have their greatness by your side.” ~Pedigree
