Because it brings us joy to do it, and we hope that it brings you a little bit of happiness to watch them. And it’s a great way for us to help promote adoptable cats and animal welfare in a light-hearted way, while showcasing rescues we think are doing an awesome job.”

Friday Films: Crazy Time–Simon’s Cat

CatBehaviorZoomies:  the act of running full speed, usually in a circular motion around the backyard, open field or in your living room

Do your cats ever get the zoomies?  Dogs can get the zoomies too, but they are usually never as dramatic as cat zoomies, because dogs generally are pretty earthbound.  But cats… when cats get the zoomies, sometimes they can fly.  And when cats get the zoomies, nothing is safe.

Here’s a new Simon’s Cat video, in which Simon’s Cat gets the zoomies.  If your cats ever get the zoomies, I’m sure you will relate!

Friday Films: Rufus Tower

rufus-19_m

Guilt is a horrible thing.  Our cats get sick and usually we have to administer medicine of some kind to keep them well.  We know it’s for their own good.   But when we have to restrain them or trick them to get the medicine in them, we feel so bad.  And, of course, they are unhappy with us.

Today’s Friday Film deals with a guilty cat owner.  When Rufus, an orange tabby, had to undergo a series of painful eardrops, his owner Billy Browne felt awful.  And, to make matters worse, Rufus had even taken to hiding from Browne when he came home from work each night.

So the remorseful Browne decided he would make it up to his favorite feline….by building him the ultimate cardboard box cat playhouse! “Rufus loves boxes,” Browne explains.

In the video below, Browne sets out on his mission to win back Rufus’ love and affection, complete with 40 boxes, some tape and a box knife. He films the entire “making of the Rufus tower,” much to the delight of cat owners across the world.  I think Rufus forgave him—don’t you?

Friday Films: Yoga With Cats Kodi and Shorty

 ZenCat

Summertime is almost here, and it’s time to firm up those muscles, get flexible, and get in shape for those shorts, tank tops and swim suits!  Here to guide you are Shorty and Kodi and their dad, in their 3rd yoga cat video.

Sho Ko Shorty and Kodi are both former shelter cats.

We featured Shorty the Yoga Cat on our Friday Films back on April 1, 2011.  Since then, they’ve developed a second yoga video too.  All three videos are included here for your viewing.  (Yoga with Cats was just released on May 8, 2013.)

After watching, get to know them better on Facebook or Sho Ko, their YouTube channel.

Friday Films: Just Say “Hello”

 Fabian_A576308

Do your cats talk?  Today’s Friday Film deals with talking cats again, especially those who greet you with a resounding “HELLO”.  Some of these cats are so cool.  It would be hard to keep a straight face if they were around and in a talkative mood.  In fact, this video drove my cats nuts trying to figure out where the vocalizations were coming from.  How did your kitties react?

Friday Films: Cat Yoga 2: Back to the Mat

Along with the rapidly approaching holidays comes the stress from all the busyness, commitments, plans, traditions, relationships, and everything else that hits in this 1 to 2-month period, depending on how you celebrate.  Perhaps now is the time to consider learning how to manage that stress.  For some, including Shorty the Cat, the answer is yoga.

Friday Films actually featured the original Cat Yoga video over a year ago.  Here is that video, in case you want a quick refresher.  Interestingly, it continues to attract a lot of return visitors to the blog.

Friday Films: Why Do Cats Purr?

(Quote image by Cat Quote Images)

If there were to be a universal sound depicting peace, I would surely vote for the purr.

              ~ Barbara L. Diamond

Today’s Friday Film features a video by award-winning cat writer and About.com: Cats Guide Franny Suyfy and addresses the facts and theories of how and why cats purr.  Is it strictly to show us humans how much the cat adores us, or something more complex?

This link isn’t embeddable, so you will need to click on the title below to go to Franny’s site to watch it.  Franny has an amazing knowledge of cats and cat behavior, and even offers free online courses and newsletters if you want to learn more about your feline companion.  Franny lives in northern California, not far from Sacramento.

Friday Films: If You Don’t Know Cats By Now

Today’s Friday Film is a retake of an old hit by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.  The videographer gets her material from I Can Has Cheeseburger and does an outstanding job putting great photos with music to send her message.  Most of her videos feature cats and dogs, and promote shelter animal adoption or the pet-human bond.  If you enjoy cats (and why else would you be reading this blog?), this is guaranteed to start your weekend off with a smile.

Friday Films: Life On The Streets: The Feral Cat Crisis

Today’s Friday Film features a new HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) video to educate communities and the public on the feral cat issue, and to highlight a selection of TNR (trap neuter return) and colony management success stories.

This 16-minute video makes a strong case for TNR and humane colony management. The HSUS lauds individual efforts to help and care for the cats but contends that it’s time for communities to commit themselves to humane and effective management of the millions of feral cats in the US today.  The video also makes an excellent presentation resource for those bringing the matter to their town, city, and state governments.

Contact the Sacramento Area Animal Coalition and the Coalition for Community Cats for more information on TNR locally.
