Do you kiss your cat and/or your dog?  If so, do they like to be kissed?  Today’s Friday Film is a compilation of cats who would rather not be kissed—at least not when the camera was rolling.

 

Friday Films: Happy Dogs—and a Cat—in Australia

Our friend from Australia, animal trainer Robert Dollwet, shows off his skills again today with a new video inspired by Pharrell Williams’ mega hit “Happy”.  It’s also a great way to end the week and prepare for the weekend.  In addition to the dogs, Dollwet’s famous skateboard-riding cat Didga is included.

Dollwet and his animal stars live in Coolangatta, Australia, and Dollwet posts on YouTube as "Catmantoo." Dollwet’s company is Malabu Dog Training.  You can read more Didga, Dollwet and his training methods on his website.  You can also follow them on Catmantoo’s Facebook page.

Infographic: The Tiny but Terrible Tick

We think it’s safe to say that everyone hates ticks, those horrible little blood-sucking insects that attach to our dogs, cats, us—and other creatures.  They are not only an ugly annoyance but can carry diseases and make “their hosts” very sick.  Ticks are the worst in the spring. 

As this infographic points out, to keep pets safe, owners should perform daily tick checks on their dogs and their cats if they go outside. If a tick is found, it should be removed promptly with either a pair of tweezers or tick pliers. It’s important to make sure the entirety of the tick’s body is removed. Owners should also speak with their veterinarian regarding vaccination against Lyme disease, protection against parasites with preventatives and more information regarding local tick-borne illnesses.

BlogPaws Celebrates Senior Pets

“According to AVMA’s U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook, pet ownership was up in 2012, especially among people who were divorced, widowed or separated. This group saw a 17.7 percent increase from 51.3 percent pet ownership in 2006 to 60.4 percent in 2011. Even more impressive, pet ownership among single men increased by 27.7 percent. Many pets are from shelters and many are not puppies or kittens, so the population of older pets is definitely on the increase.

Meet Jumpy dog, one very intelligent, very well-trained Border Collie.  I haven’t been able to find out much about her except that she has lots of videos on YouTube and her own page on Facebook.  That’s where I got the photos above.
